Touchy Feely review – sweet-natured drama too kooky for its own good

Lynn Shelton's quirky portrait of a massage therapist who can't touch people lacks wit and insight, says Mark Kermode

Despite its A-list alt-indie cast, writer-director Lynn Shelton's self-consciously quirky portrait of mildly alienated angsty types is just too damned kooky for its own good. When a massage therapist develops a phobia about human contact, her socially awkward dentist brother discovers that he has healing hands. Having premiered at Sundance in January 2013, this sweet-natured and occasionally endearing oddity has pootled hither and thither ever since, much like its key characters. Innocuous then, but sadly lacking the wit and insight of Shelton's far superior Your Sister's Sister.
